Monarch denies allegation

The Aholu of Kweme kingdom in Badagry, Lagos State, Oba Sejiro Olamilekan James, yesterday denied allegation of supporting smuggling in Seme and Badagry.

He spoke at a news briefing.

Oba James said he read it online that he was among the traditional rulers in Badagry who supported smuggling of contrabands to Lagos.

He said: “I have no hand in illegality, I have told youths in my community to do their businesses according to the law of export and import.

“Anyone caught involving in smuggling should be dealt with according to the law of the land.

“For anyone to write that monarchs in Badagry are in support of illegality is insulting and degrading to our kingdoms.

“We may not be flamboyant and rich like other traditional rulers in other divisions of Lagos. But his doesn’t mean we should be involved in smuggling.”

The monarch urged the government to provide social amenities and employment opportunities for the people of border communities in Badagry.

“There is no electricity in Badagry-West Local Council Development Area, no company, no job for teeming youths. This is not good enough,’’ he added.
