Candidates protest alleged recruitment of 1,000 PDP members into Osun Amotekun

  • Allegation untrue, screening is merit based—Corp commandant

Protest broke out at the entrance of National Youths Services Corps (NYSC) orientation camp Ede, Osun State, the camping ground for Amotekun security outfit, as candidates alleged that the outfit shortlisted only members of People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in the recruitment process of 1,000 corps.

The Field Commander, Dr. Isaac Omoyele had announced in January that the state government will recruit 1,000 operatives into the outfit to tackle the escalating insecurity in the state. The security outfit commenced the screening process at the orientation camp on Sunday.

In a viral video sighted by The Nation, scores of candidates shut outside the gate lamented that they were sent out of the camp and later replaced by those that never applied since Sunday.

It was also claimed that some candidates died in the camp while others were rushed to the hospital.

The Chairman of Amotekun Board, AIG Wale Abass (rtd) dispelled the allegations noting that the outfit had always adhered to the highest standards of professionalism, transparency, and fairness.

He said: “The accusations that we engaged in partisan behavior during the recruitment process are not only baseless but also malicious. The recruitment exercise was open, transparent, and merit-based, with no consideration given to political affiliations.
