The Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Ado-Ekiti branch, has said lawyers have a duty to defend suspects, adding that accused persons are deemed innocent until proved otherwise.
The Chairman, Omodele Adewumi, spoke with reporters on the NBA’s three-day National Executive Council Meeting (NEC), which began yesterday in Ado-Ekiti.
Reacting to complaints that lawyers encourage crime by defending suspects, Adewumi said: “We have been receiving petitions about alleged unethical conduct by some members. Recently, we received seven petitions and are investigating them.”
