UK-based Nigerian gospel singer Muyiwa Olarewaju has shared a harrowing experience where he was treated as a suspect after narrowly escaping a robbery attempt in February.
Narrating the incident on his X platform, he said that while driving to work around 5:30 a.m., a young man attempted to break into his vehicle, smashing the window.
He said he escaped safely and reported the incident to the police, providing them with surveillance footage that captured the attack.
Olarewaju claimed that instead of investigating the attacker, the police reportedly began probing him, labelling him as a suspect.
Despite being the victim, he said he was called in for questioning and had to hire a lawyer to defend himself.
The police investigated him for a charge related to public fighting, despite the footage showing the attacker.
The investigation lasted three months, but the police eventually dropped the case due to a lack of evidence.
Olarewaju expressed relief that the matter was resolved, but advised the public to be cautious and have legal representation ready in case of similar situations.
He praised his lawyers, Hanson Woods, for their phenomenal support during the ordeal.

He explained, “I told the police where the cameras were in that area, the fact that the guy had smashed up my window, and the worrying and all that it caused.
“They called me in for interviews, etc., etc., and I had to get a lawyer. Thank God for family in Hanson Woods. I highly recommend solicitors Hanson Woods — they were phenomenal.
“The police never found the young man whom they saw on camera. But I was being investigated for affray.
“Three months later, they’ve come back to say nothing to see here. They can’t find the guy who attacked my car, and they don’t have any more evidence on their charge against me.
“So be careful out there. And if you don’t have legal representation already, have it ready just in case you go through a thing like this. I’m sure the police are doing a wonderful job of keeping law and order, but some things go wrong sometimes”.
