Firm launches Agritourism fiesta

Entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector in a bid to inspire a new generation of farmers, have announced the inaugural 90-day World Agritourism Festival.

The festival was launched to bridge the rich traditions of Nigerian farming with cutting-edge modern agricultural technologies, creating a dynamic platform for growth, innovation, and cultural pride.

Spearheaded by Dr. Seyi David, chief executive officer of XtraLarge Farms and Resort, and his wife, Dr. Moji David, managing director, the event aims to reshape how Nigerians view agriculture—making it attractive, profitable, and prestigious.

Speaking at a briefing, Mrs. David said the goal is to promote growth and contribute to GDP and revenue streams.

“Farming has been linked with poverty and hardship,” she said. “We want to change that narrative, show that agriculture can be fun, rewarding, and honourable. We need to celebrate the pride and potential of our farmers.”

Seyi noted: “The festival will showcase our agricultural heritage and serve as a platform to attract youths into farming…’’

With faith in God and collective effort, we can turn farming into a source of pride, prosperity, and sustainability for generations.”

The festival’s core initiatives include: Urban residents, diaspora Nigerians, and international tourists can participate in immersive farm stays lasting a minimum of three days. Guests will engage in hands-on activities such as planting, harvesting, and animal husbandry, earning certificates of agritourism induction and joining a global community passionate about farming.

“Four virtual summits featuring distinguished speakers from Nigeria, the UK, Canada, the US, Dubai, and Australia will showcase profitable, sustainable farming techniques. Additionally, large-scale roadshows in Lagos and Ogun State aim to rally at least 1,000 young participants each, marching through markets and communities to advocate for agritourism.

Over 10,000 Nigerians will receive free training in sustainable farming practices. Collaborations with Nigerian universities and educational institutions will promote farming projects and foster a culture of entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency.

Launching on World Agritourism Day, May 16, and culminating with a grand expo at Marriott Hotel Lagos on June 14, 2025, the festival invites individuals, corporate sponsors, and government agencies to participate and support. All activities are accessible via the festival’s website and social media platforms.

This initiative aims to shift perceptions and encourage more Nigerians to see farming as a rewarding and sustainable livelihood.

Leveraging her expertise in marketing and tourism, Dr Moji David shared her vision: “We want to ignite curiosity about farming and create experiences that resonate with families, tourists, and enthusiasts. This is a celebration of our vibrant agricultural culture.”

Team leader Mr. Shola Ajayi highlighted plans to integrate agritourism into local school curricula and foster vibrant community conversations about farming. The festival will kick off with a colorful parade featuring floats showcasing Nigeria’s diverse crops, fruits, and livestock, celebrating the vibrancy of Nigerian agriculture.
