The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Monday announced that the Departmental Selection Board (DSB) interview for Police Inspectors eligible for promotion to the rank of Unconfirmed Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP 2) will commence on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the 17 Police Zonal Command Headquarters across the country.
PSC said the interview is a crucial requirement for senior Inspectors aspiring to the next rank.
The Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd.), confirmed that PSC staff would be deployed to all the Zonal Command Headquarters to oversee the promotion interviews in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Argungu warned against any form of financial inducement during the exercise, cautioning candidates against contributing money to PSC officials or police officers involved in the interview process.
“The Commission will deal ruthlessly with any Police Officer or Officers found to be involved in any way, attempting to induce or compromise officials of the Commission or Police Officers supervising the exercise,” he stated.
According to a statement issued by the Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC boss further stressed that officers caught engaging in such acts would not only face severe sanctions but would also be publicly disgraced.

Argungu acknowledged the existence of corrupt practices during previous promotion exercises, where contributions were allegedly collected from candidates and handed over to supervising officials.
He assured that the Commission is committed to ending such discreditable acts and would ensure that the Departmental Selection Board operates transparently and fairly.
“Promotion and its processes in the Nigeria Police Force will henceforth be based strictly on merit and the availability of vacancies,” he emphasised.
The PSC Chairman advised officers scheduled for the promotion interviews to adequately prepare and face the interview panel confidently, assuring that only merit would determine their advancement.
He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force remains capable and ready to secure the nation, maintain law and order, and allow citizens to pursue their daily activities in a safe environment.
