When Michael Afolaranmi celebrated 50th birthday

Michael Owolabi Afolaranmi is a man whose journey from modest beginnings to the pinnacle of African entrepreneurship has captivated millions across Nigeria and beyond.

Widely known with his business tradename, 12 Baskets, Afolaranmi is regarded as a symbol of the Nigerian dream, after building an empire in small chops business with branches at Sura Chopping Complex, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Abuja, with a befitting headquarters in Lekki from scratch.

With an international branch scheduled to launch in Houston, Texas, USA, and over 100 staffs, Afolaranmi has worked his way to the top and earned a seat at the table of gentlemen of means and favour. Through his brand, 12 Baskets, he has empowered countless youths, redefined small chops business in Africa, and become a respected voice in business and philanthropy.

However, Sunday, June 22, 2025 will go down as one to remember, as the popular socialite celebrated his 50th birthday with an unforgettable and spectacular event.

The Balmoral Convention Centre, Ikeja GRA, was the venue of the celebration that welcomed several dignitaries and celebrities from various walks of life.

The aquatic city of Lagos was awash with glamour, music, and high society sparkle, as Afolaranmi hosted a grand celebration with family, close associates, friends, aides and staff.

From real estate executives to property developers, political and entertainment heavyweights to staff of 12 Baskets, the guest list was inexhaustive.

Among the dignitaries were Rasheed Muri Okunola, Morola Olabisi Babalola, Gbenga Adeyinka 1st, Kayode Alfred, Bimpe Onanubi, Victor Ganzallo, Surakatu Idiat Eniola, Mayowa Daniels, and Olanike Solanke among others.

The event was anchored by popular comedian MC Ajele, who delivered an electrifying performance that had guests laughing their sorrow away.

He was joined by the Grand Comedian of Nigeria GCON Gbenga Adeyinka, as they both lit up the night with electrifying jokes and heartfelt tributes to the celebrant.

One of the highlights of the event was the best dressed competition amongst the men and women that attended the shindig, where the winner went home with a whopping 300,000 naira prize money for conforming with the event’s dress code.

In his heartfelt address, Michael Afolaranmi expressed gratitude to his family, friends, and loyal supporters for walking the journey with him, while reaffirming his commitment to youth empowerment, cultural promotion, and national development.
