‘Continual training key to revenue hike’

Executive Chairman of Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, Olugbenga Olaleye, has urged the Inspectors of Tax Forum (ITF) to distinguish themselves in the discharge of their duties.

He said continuous training was vital to achieving sustained revenue growth.

Olaleye spoke at a meeting with the forum at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He said tax officers must seek relevance in today’s environment, adding academic qualifications were not enough to excel in the profession.

“Humility is an important virtue. Also, ask for wisdom and the spirit of discernment to unravel mysteries,” he said.

He supported bi-monthly training, saying it would equip officers to perform well.

The chair urged workers to be hardworking, open-minded and committed to learning and personal growth.

Coordinating Director, Taiwo Ogundimu, hailed Olaleye’s leadership and the innovations under him.

He said regular training and examinations had contributed to revenue growth.

Ogundimu said the bi-monthly training would also help officers align with new ideas in readiness for the Tax Reforms Bill, scheduled to take effect next January.

Director of Administration and Supplies Mr. Olusegun Akinfaiye advised professionals not to focus solely on personal career development, but to give priority to the collective growth of the service.
