One person suspected to have been forced to consume a deadly poison has been confirmed dead and two others in critical condition at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi on Thursday.
The three were later dumped in a drainage by the BSUTH shortly after they had consumed the poisonous substance.
It is believed that the incident may have been politically motivated because one of the persons that died and whose name The Nation was yet to ascertain was the immediate past Councillor, Fiidi Ward, Makurdi.
The councillor is originally from Ukemberagya ward of Logo Local Government Area (LGA) just as the state governor, Gabriel Suswam hails from Logo, LGA.
According to our sources at the BSUTH, Makurdi who would not want his name in print said the person that died may have been strangled after he took the poison.
We gathered that the other two are still battling for their lives and may not make it.
However, The Nation learnt that one of those that were still battling for their lives may have made a written statement revealing those behind the act.
The corpse of the late councillor has been deposited at the morgue of the BUSTH.
But, when The Nation sought to confirm the report the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Austin Ezeani would not pick his calls.
