Italian Serie A club Atalanta are believed to have pulled the plug on a move for Flying Eagles midfielder Obinna Nwobodo following a knee injury.
AfricanFootball.com was reliably informed that Atalanta were ready to snap up the Enugu Rangers attacking midfielder after his bright showing at the recent African Youth Championship in Senegal.
However, their interest has cooled because the player is nursing a knee injury he suffered in the final of the AYC in Dakar last month.
He is not expected to return to action before early May after a Senegal player maliciously stepped on his knee and he was forced out of the championship game.
The 18-year-old Nwobodo scored in the AYC semifinal against archrivals Ghana and provided two assists in the group game against Cote d’Ivoire. He is a technically gifted player who has held his own at Nigeria premier league side Enugu Rangers in the past two seasons.
Serie A side Atalanta are based in Bergamo and finished 11th in the Italian top flight last season.
Ex-Argentina World Cup star Claudio Caniggia and Filippo Inzaghi are some of the top stars who have played for this club.
