Al Ahly of Egypt’s striker Peter Ebimobowei has told SportingLife specially that he is overwhelmed with joy after he marked his return from a hamstring injury with a goal for his club in their 2-1 away win against Alaab Damanhour in the league on Thursday night.
Ebimobowei has played less than eight matches since he completed his switch from Bayelsa United to Al Ahly in December last year, after his running battle with hamstring complaints limited his playing time.
He made his anticipated return to first team duties last weekend in the CAF Champions League second round, first leg tie against Moghreb Tétouan of Morocco which his club lost 0-1 away.
Speaking with SportingLife from Egypt, Ebimobowei said he was happy to inspire his team to an important win after the club’s late rally against Alaab Damanhour prevented an embarrassing loss against the bottom placed hosts.
“I am back to life, I don’t have any injury complaint again. I am also thrilled with the fact that I scored again after only two games after my return from injury. I pray against a long injury lay-off as I strive to settle down to life in Cairo,” Ebimobowei told SportingLife yesterday.
The Nigerian started Al Ahly’s comeback in the 87th minute after he cancelled Alaab’s opener scored by Mostafa Afroto in the 57th minute, before Al Saied netted the match winner in the 90th minute.
The win lifted Ahly to third on the Egyptian top flight log with 46 points from 23 games. They trail Zamalek SC and ENPPI on the log who are first and second with 54 and 50 points respectively.
Ebimobowei has scored three goals in six matches in the league. He was the second highest goal scorer in the Nigeria Football Professional League (NPFL) last season with 18 goals for Bayelsa United.
