At least five soldiers from the Nigerian Army, 3 Armored Division, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos, Plateau State, died in a blast which rocked the barrack on Saturday.
A source in the barrack revealed that the dead soldiers were working in the armory at the time of the explosion.
Several others were seriously wounded in the blast.
The deceased officers were reportedly re-parking bombs in the armory when incident happened.
The explosion which occurred at about 9:30am on Saturday morning was initially rumored to be a Boko Haram attack and this threw the entire city into pandemonium.
The barrack is about 20 kilometer from Jos, the state capital, but the impact of the explosion was felt in the entire city.
The Deputy Director of Army Public Relation, Col. Texas Chukwu, confirmed the incident, but he was not forthcoming on the number of victims.
