LAHA: Nollywood celebrates its own

JUNE 8, 2015 was a landmark day for Nollywood, as friends and colleagues of star actor and film  producer, Desmond Olusola Elliot trooped out to support him during his inauguration into the Lagos State House of Assembly to represent Surulere 1 Constituency.

Ably supported by his charming wife, they were resplendent in native attire. Desmond decked out in a white lace Agbada outfit, while his wife opted for a red French lace long skirt and blouse ensemble. The former also had a sky blue Aso-oke cap to match, while the latter favoured the same Aso-oke head gear and Ipele.

Elliot, who had the support of his Nollywood colleagues, was not touted to win in certain quarters, as he is not widely known to be of Lagos state origin.

“I am from Lagos state. My father is from Olowogbowo in Lagos Island but my mother is from Delta state. I refer to myself as being a Pan-African,” the artiste said.

Industry watchers hope that the tenure of the actor-turned-politician would serve the interests of the Nigerian motion picture industry.
