Team Nigeria powerlifting team were the cynosure of all eyes Friday at Ornano Sports Complex setting three world records in a day.
The trio of Bose Omolayo lifted 137.5kg to win gold in 79kg and set new world record having broke her own record of 137kg she set two months ago in Khazastan at Asian games, while Obiji Lovelyn set the second world record in 86kg lifting 149kg and Precious Orji completed the record setting in 86+kg lifting 164kg.
Omolayo in a chat with SportingLife after the medal presentation ceremony was full of praises to the Almighty God for making it possible for her to win gold and set the record.
She also credited her success to the technical ability of the head coach Are Feyisetan who she described as her mentor and somebody who always encouraged her and other athletes.
Brown Ebewele former commissioner for Sport Edo state while speaking with SportingLife on the feat performed by the powerlifters commended the effort of the lifters and the technical team saying that the powerlifters need more encouragement and that he expected better performance in Olympics next year in Rio.
Feyisetan who spoke to SportingLife after the event commended his athletes for making the country proud.
