Parents and pupils at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre sports complex of Command Secondary School, Oshodi, Lagos were thrilled by budding sportsmen and women from the school, who put up good performances during their 11th Annual Inter-House Sports Competition.
The event, which was made colourful with activities such as football, basketball, athletics and match past, thrilled the parents, workers and visitors. The athletes and officials took oaths under the law of Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN).
At the end of the day, Stallion House (Blue) slammed others with 10 gold, seven silver and five bronze medals; Tiger House (Yellow) won the march past; and Hippopotamus House (Green) won the football match.
Speaking at the event, the Commandant of the school, lieutenant colonel M. A. Bukar, said sports has is valued not just for entertainment and ability to improve physical well being, but also for the exposure it gives to an individual.
“All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. We have filed out this year in pursuit of sporting excellence. We are here to showcase talents and skills, we are here for sport and not for war,” he said.
Adebayo Abiodun, house master of Hippopotamus House said it was consistent training which earned the house the football medal.
Akinbiye Oluwagbemiga, house master of Stallion House was excited to be the overall winner of the competition.
“It was never my strength. All thanks to God for giving me the grace to win the competition. I will like to plead with the school management to organise inter-house sports annually in order to encourage and train students to be able to represent the school outside,” he said
The school’s vice principal (Administration) Mr Dauda Salau praised participants for their outstanding performance.
