Giwa FC defender Lawal El-Shittu is upset that his side could not come away with the three points in their Week 2 Nigeria Professional Football League game against Niger Tornadoes in Lokoja.
After losing their first game at home in Jos to FC Ifeanyiubah, Giwa FC took the trip to Lokoja, the adopted home of Niger Tornadoes, looking to get their first points of the new season.
It did not go according to plan as Tornadoes took the lead through Lukman Mohammed in the 45th minute, poking the ball past Olorunleke Ojo in goal for Giwa FC.
Ojo stood firm to prevent Tornadoes from doubling their lead as the hosts intensified efforts for another goal.
Giwa FC eventually got back on level terms through new-signing Ibrahim Salawu in the 64th minute as the Elephants held on for a share of the spoils.
El-Shittu was left to rue missed chances as he insisted Giwa FC deserved more from the game given the chances his side created.
“I’m happy with our performance but sad we came out with only a point to show for our efforts. Tornadoes are a very good side but we created a lot of chances though we didn’t convert them as we should have,” El-Shittu told supersport.com.
“I’m disappointed but I guess we have to go back and work harder for our next game. The season is still new and we are getting better. I believe Giwa FC will pick up many points on the road this season. I am optimistic of that,” he said.
Giwa FC are in 16th place on the NPFL log after two match days with a single point.
