Wike sets up panel on violence

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has set up a Judicial Commission of Enquiry to investigate the violence and killings at last Saturday’s legislative rerun in the state.

In a broadcast yesterday, Wike said: “To forestall a repeat of the needless violence and fatalities in future elections, I hereby establish a Judicial Commission of Enquiry to investigate the violence, killings and other related acts that occurred in parts of the state during the March 19, 2016, rerun elections and make recommendations to government.”

He added: “Members of the commission are: Justice Monima Wenike Danagogo – chairman; Venerable John Adubasim; Mrs. Douye Green; Joseph Zabbey; Luke Nwanodi; and Mrs. Uche Uriri – secretary.”

The governor is expected to swear in the panel today at 10 am at the Government House.
