The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set up a committee to resolve rifts among party members, its National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, said yesterday.
He spoke with State House correspondents at the end of APC caucus meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday night.
Explaining that skirmishes among party members was normal, Oyegun said the challenges that followed past elections would soon be a thing of the past.
The party chairman said: “Skirmishes among party members are normal. We have set up a committee to look into all the issues.
“We discussed the challenges since the elections and we decided on the way forward. It was a serious meeting that discussed issues to do with progress of the party.”
He added: “Basically, we are expecting the budget to be out, and once that is done, implementation of our policies will start. That is what we will use to deliver on our promises to the people.
“We don’t just recover money and spend it. We recover money and it will go into revenue. It will be deployed appropriately with the normal legislative approach.”
On the alleged suffering of Nigerians in almost one year of the administration, he said: “Don’t say one year into the administration. Count this year because this is the year we are presenting our budget and implementation will start.”
He dispelled speculations that his office was under threat.
“I am not aware that my office is under threat. I led the party to the State House. It amazes me; occasionally it annoys me. That is one of the things you have to endure when you are in a position like mine,” he said.
But a crucial meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee will hold today in Abuja.
The meeting, the second since the party took power, would deliberate on issues affecting the party.
Sources said financing and election of the Board of Trustees chairman may top discussions.
It was learnt that the party’s National caucus meeting was held on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa.
The source said the party had been facing financial crisis and had been unable to carry out some of its programmes, including its second anniversary, in August 2015.
Employment of party workers may also be discussed, as many workers are believed to be casual. A panel was set up to look into the employment of permanent workers.
The meeting may also discuss the composition of boards and heads of agencies, which are still occupied by appointees of the PDP government.
APC members have complained about delays in such appointments, especially those who worked for the party.
The crisis in some states as well as the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states may also form part of the agenda.
The meeting is expected to be attended by Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, present and former governors.
