Sacked VCs: Civil society withdraws suit

Coalition of Civil Society Groups (CSG) said yesterday it was withdrawing its case against the Federal Ministry of Education.

This followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s resolve to reverse his decision on the sacked vice chancellors of 12 federal universities.

Its President, Etuk Bassey, who spoke at a news conference in Abuja, said the President is a listening leader, who promotes unity and democratic values.

The President, during the National Executive Council meeting of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja, reportedly apologised for his sack of the vice chancellors.

He said: “As a mark of respect and show of solidarity to your administration, the executive council decided to withdraw from the Industrial Court a suit filed against the Federal Ministry of Education in respect to this matter.

“This is our way of saying thank you for yielding to stakeholders, who appealed that you revisit your decision, which, though taken in good faith, was predicated the wrong counsel.”
