The trial of Oluwaseun Oladapo, the suspected killer of a rights activist, Kunle Fadipe, was stalled at a Lagos High Court in Ikeja yesterday as the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mrs Idowu Alakija, was reported to have taken ill.
Also, the defendant, Oluwaseun Oladapo, also failed to appear in court yesterday owing to ill health.
Both the assistant state counsel, Babajide Boye and an Ikoyi Prison official, where the defendant is being held, made this known yesterday to Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye.
The prison official told the court that Oladapo has been admitted at the Igbobi Orthopedic Hospital because “he is seriously experiencing pains in his leg”.
The official, who did not disclose his name to the court, said Oladapo has been scheduled to undergo surgery on his leg for the bullet wound he received at the time of his arrest.
Defence counsel Worer Obuagbaka expressed surprise at his client’s absence in court.
Though he admitted that he was aware the defendant was to go for surgery, he, however, told the court that he was not informed it would come so soon.
Obuagbaka asked for a two-month adjournment to allow his client to fully recuperate.
Justice Ipaye granted his prayer, saying, “in view of the circumstance of the defendant being on admission in the hospital, the case is hereby adjourned till May 31”.
