The Enugu State House of Assembly yesterday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to redeploy the security chiefs in the state.
This followed last week’s attacks on Ukpabi-Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
Condemning the killings, the Assembly noted that what happened at Nimbo should be conveyed to international human right organisations.
It urged Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to liaise with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to take care of the displaced residents.
Thanking his colleagues for contributing to a motion brought by the member representing Uzo-Uwani, John-Kevin Ukuta, on the menace of Fulani herdsmen, Speaker Edward Ubosi urged Enugu State residents not to live in fear or take the laws into their hands.
He assured that the government would protect their lives and property.
Ubosi said: “I thank you all for your contributions to the motion. You all spoke from your hearts because human lives were involved. However, I urge the people of the state not to live in fear or to take laws into their hands.”
Members spoke against the killings and destruction of property at Nimbo and other places in the state.
- K. E. Ude-Okoye, representing Awgu North, noted that if nothing was done, the Igbo nation might be in trouble.
