Lagos-Ibadan express accident: Group Charges FG on Road safety

Road Safety for Africa (ROSAFA) on Monday condemned the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway accident of Sunday, which claimed the lives of about 19 persons.
This is contained in a statement issued by the group in Denmark and signed by Prof. Ade Ojeniyi, Chairman Board of Directors, ROSAFA.

‘It was with heavy hearts that we of Road Safety for Africa (ROSAFA) once again read of the senseless loss of innocent and valuable lives on the bloodthirsty roads of our beloved country with 19 being crushed to death on the spot on the Lagos – Ibadan Expressway on Sunday, and ironically on the 19th. June 2016.

“Our hearts and thoughts go to the bereaved families, so do our prayers that they find solace in the pleasant memories of their dearly beloved’s untimely demise caused mainly by avoidable human factors. It behooves of all relevant authorities and all concerned citizens to arrest this wanton wastage of human lives.

“Questions pile up just why we are so prone to the so much mayhem that bedevils Nigeria traffic. We are aware that many factors contribute to this. It is no news that road accidents rank as the second source of violent deaths in Nigeria, even beating those caused by the Boko Haram insurgency. Certainly, this gives food for thought in all concerned Nigerians.

“We at ROSAFA are very worried, and therefore, we call for extremely urgent measures to arrest this scourge of bathing Nigeria horrible roads with the people’s blood,” the statement read.

Road Safety For Africa is an international non-profit organization established to promote traffic safety in low and middle-income countries.
