9,500 Nigerians now study in U.S colleges – Envoy

The United States Deputy Chief of Mission to Nigeria, Ms Maria Brewer, on Thursday said 9,500 Nigerians are now studying at more than 730 colleges and universities in America.

Brewer said this at the pre-departure orientation for the new students held on Thursday in Abuja, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

“Compared to the previous school year, nearly 20 per cent more Nigerians are enrolled at a U.S college or university.

“This rise fuelled almost single-handedly, Africa’s overall student number increase of eight per cent.

“Nigeria is top African source country and the 15th nation worldwide with students in the U.S,” she said.

Brewer said the U.S Mission’s Education Advising Centres had helped thousands of young Nigerians achieve their dreams of studying in the U.S.
