The sun glowed in its majestic glory that afternoon in
April as the vehicle moved towards the gate of Salem
University, Lokoja. Six years ago, the gate was anything
but inviting. The fence giving the institution a secluded
outlook deserving of its status was yet to be erected.
Once inside, one is confronted with massive
infrastructural upgrades. It won’t be an overstatement to
describe them as simply world-class. The classrooms are
fully kitted with modern facilities that make learning not
only conducive but also enjoyable.
The e-library said to have cost several millions in dollars
sits majestically just after the administrative block, right
before the well-equipped classrooms. Students walked in
and out beaming. Those inside the massive facility were
communing with the gods of knowledge. They seemed to
be having personal conversations with books that one
dare not break.
The chief librarian, an elderly man, showing huge
experience, said the books are nothing compared to the
consignments expected. Those who prefer e-services
could easily log on to the many internet-ready systems on
display. The shelves were yearning for more space to
accommodate the many books available.
