Lagos Police seek residents’ assistance on crime

The Lagos State Police Command has urged the residents to support them to enable them get rid of the cultists, kidnappers, miscreants and other criminals in the state.

The Pedro Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bala Graba made the appeal at the enlarged peace and security meeting organised by the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) for the Community Development Associations (CDA), landlords, landladies, Baales, market men and women in Bariga.

He said the criminal activities in the state would only be curbed if residents could give maximum support to the police and other sister agencies by giving them vital information on any suspicious persons or acts in their environment.

He said the police’s primary role is to secure lives and properties. He urged residents to always contact police when organising event to enable them have adequate security personnels.

The Council’s Sole Administrator, Prince Sanya Osijo said the event was aimed at sensitising the residents on the need to be security conscious in Bariga and Lagos to eradicate criminalities in the state, noting that Lagos would continue to say no to cultism, kidnap, miscreants, thuggery and other criminalities.

He said any youth caught in any secret cult that is terrorising the residents would face the law, saying one of the targets of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is to ensure that Lagos is free of crime.

He appealed to the landlords and landladies to educate their children and wards on the ills of crimes. Charity, he said, should begin at home.

Prince Osijo urged the parents to monitor their area, especially the cultists and hoodlums, and that abandoned vehicles that are more than seven days old should be reported.

He said groups and associations should be monitored and reported to the police to avoid disruption of the residents’ peace.  He said any criminal arrested with proof and later released or people soliciting his/her release must be reported to the area command or any appropriate quarter. He urged relatives to stop soliciting criminal’s release after being arrested with evidence. Caution and discipline should be meted to our children and wards, he added.
