Alaba traders to fight firewith proactive measures

The President of the Alaba International Amalgamated Traders Association (AIATA), Hon EmekaMozoba, has made availablein the Alaba International Market, Ojo, Lagos, reputed to be the largest international market in Africa, hundreds of nine-kilogramme cylinder of fire extinguishers, as one of the proactive measures against fire outbreak in the market.

The extinguishers are meant for the protection of traders’ goods and money and one cylinder would be assigned to each shop, said Hon Mozoba.

Addressing the media at the weekend, he named part ofthe measures as requesting men of the AIATA Task Force to go round the market on a daily basis to checkmate the abuse of electricity generating sets for alternative power supply.

Other measures include providing a central kitchen for all restaurant services in the market to check fire incidents from charcoal and cooking stove cylinders, checking of illegal electric wiring in shops and use of substantial electric wire and the ban on smoking as well as wanton discard of cigarette stubs in the market.
