The Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Jackson Adebayo, was on Friday night attacked by suspected gunmen in Ado Ekiti, the state capital on his way to the church. Adebayo, who is on admission at a private hospital, revealed that he was accosted by a three-man gang on a motorcycle at Federal Housing Road in Oke Ila area of the town at about 9.00 pm.
Adebayo fingered the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) as the brain behind the attack, alleging that he had received threat calls on his mobile phone shortly after issuing a statement condemning the trip of the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari to the United States.
But the APC, in a swift reaction by its Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, advised Adebayo to stop “night crawling” and desist from politicising the incident in a bid to attract “unnecessary attention.”
While insisting the attack was not a robbery, Adebayo said the the gunmen went away with his phone and iPad, they returned the money they took from his pocket.
“I was going for a vigil in the church when three armed men on a motorbike accosted me. Two of them came down with their guns and started shooting sporadically. They seized me and hit my head against the asphalt on the road and the man on the bike ordered them to shoot me, but the men said they should leave me,” he claimed.
But APC spokesman Olatunbosun said: “We don’t want to join issues with Jackson but we should let him realise that night crawling is not what a gentleman should be involved in. Is it President Buhari or his wife that sent hoodlums after him? It is like taking politics to a ridiculous and embarrassing situation. Let Jackson stop night crawling and not to politicise the incident.
