Driver, two others remanded for ‘N2.7m theft’

A 25-year-old driver, Mayowa Adenuga, who allegedly stole N2, 728,255 million from his master, a professor, has been remanded in Ikoyi prison by a Yaba Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrate A.O. Erinle yesterday remanded Adenuga and his two accomplices, Adewale Opeyemi (18) and Jeremiah Ijitoye (29) in coustody  pending the perfection of their bail conditions.

The police arraigned the defendants before the court on a three-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Prosecuting Sergeant Oriabure Godwin told the court that the defendants stole the money from the professor’s Zenith Bank account.

The theft was allegedly carried out with the porfessor’s stolen ATM card.

According to the prosecution, the offence was committed at Magodo, Isheri, Lagos on July 2.

He said the offence committed was contrary to and punishable under sections 409, 289 and 285(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

When the charges were read, the defendants pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Erinle granted them N800,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum.

She said the sureties must be blood relation and a verifiable house owner in Lagos.

She thereafter adjourned the matter till October 17.
