The Enugu State Police Command is investigating the alleged shooting of a farmer and abduction of two persons by suspected gunmen.
Police spokesman Ebere Amaraizu, a Superintendent of Police (SP), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday the incident took place at Akpakume-Nze community in Igbo-Etiti Local Government.
According to him, the incident happened at noon on Tuesday while victims were weeding their farms.
Amaraizu said: “It was gathered that yet-to-be-identified gunmen allegedly shot Lazarus Amadi, who went to farm, and injured him as well as abduct two other farmers.
“The command mobilised policemen, who went to the farmland where the injured Amadi was rescued and taken to hospital. He is responding to treatment.”
The spokesman said the command’s operatives, in partnership with members of the community, began an intense manhunt to rescue the abducted farmers, Paul Ugwu and Hycenith Eze.
He said: “After a day of intense manhunt by the police operatives with members of the communities, the two abducted persons were rescued and returned to their families unhurt.”
