The police have arrested a man, Eloho Ekene, for allegedly beating up a lawyer, Ben Ibeke, tearing up his law books and damaging his chamber during an argument over property.
The police said 45-year-old Ekene of 147A Ogunlana Drive, Surulere, Lagos, destroyed properties worth N2.7million during the fracas.
The defendant was charged yesterday before Mrs Joy Ugbomoiko of an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on two counts of assault and unlawful damage.
Prosecuting Superintendent of Police (Supol) ýEshiet Eshiet told the court that Ekene assaulted the lawyer on July 27, at about 1pm, at 147A Ogunlana Drive, Surulere, Lagos during a dispute over an eviction notice served on the the defendant.
He alleged that the defendant hit the complainant “with fist blow all over his body and also unlawfully damaged chairs, table, books and other equipment valued at N2.7million, all property of Ben Ibeke and Co.
Magistrate Ugbomoiko upheld the defendant’s application for bail on self recognition and adjourned till October 17.
