Oke seeks Akoko people’s support

Ondo State Alliance for Democracy (AD) governorship candidate Chief Olusola Oke yesterday hosted his running mate in the November 26 poll, Ganny Dauda, at his Ijapo home, Akure, the state capital.

Dauda, who is from Irun-Akoko in Northern Senatorial District, is a former member, House of Representatives representing Akoko North East/North West.

He was presented to Oke by a delegation from Northern Senatorial District, which visited the AD’s standard-bearer.

Among dignitaries at the brief event was the replaced governorship candidate and retired military officer Dr. Akin Olowookere, who described Oke “as the best for the job because of his integrity”.

He said he dropped the ticket for the former All Progressive Congress (APC) aspirant for his sterling qualities and ability to bring desired transformation to Ondo State.

Olowookere later held a meeting with Oke and his running mate, which lasted for almost one hour.

Speaking to reporters, Oke described his union with Dauda as symbolic, stressing that he would not use his deputy as a spare tyre like other governors, if he wins the November 26 poll.

He said: “I know it is a painful decision for the northerners to support a southern candidate. The blame is on Mimiko for stalling the universal law and causing divide and rule by picking another person from the same Ondo Central (Akure)to succeed him.

“Akure people thought Mimiko loves them, but I know he wanted to profit from this step. But I know it would not be so easy.”

He urged the Akoko people,  irrespective of their party affiliations to show more commitment to the AD project, stressing that the party needed 250,000 votes to defeat Mimiko’s “third term agenda”.

Oke said: “AD project is beyond Ondo State; it is a collective interest of the entire Yoruba race.”

The former Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) National Legal Adviser promised to run his administration with the fear of God.

“We want to rescue the state from the tyrants; we have taken the bull by the horn and we will bring hope to the people,” he said.

He added that within the next six months after assuming office, all the abandoned projects would be completed and moribund industries reactivated.
