Burglar proof fabricator bolts with woman’s N70,000 in Ogun

A 42-year-old man, Waidi Aranse, has disappeared with a landlady’s N70,000 he allegedly obtained on the pretext of fabricating burglar proof for her house at a village near Ota in Ogun.

Aranse, after failing to deliver the job about five months after he collected the money, is being tried at an Ota Magistrates’ Court for stealing and obtaining money under false pretenses.

Cpl. Abdulkareem Mustapha, who arraigned the accused on behalf of the police, said the offences were committed on April 25 at about 10.00 a.m. at Iwoye Village, Iligbo Road in Ota.

“The man collected N70,000 from the complainant, Olawunmi Solabomi, with a promise to produce for her burglar proof, but failed to do so.”

By the offences, Aranse has contravened Sections 390 and 419 of the Criminal Code,Laws of Ogun,2006, the prosecutor said.

Asked whether he is guilty or not, the accused denied the charge.

The court granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, who must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction, should be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.I. Adelaja, ruled.

Dec.7 has been fixed for the hearing of the case.
