The House of Representatives Committee on Nigeria Airforce, on Tuesday, vowed to pursue strict legislations against the menace of oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the country.
The committee said such legislations would empower the Nigerian Airforce to effectively discharge its constitutional responsibilities in the areas of oil-related crimes.
The Chairman of the committee, Mr. Samson Okwu, spoke when he led members of his team to pay a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of the state, Rear Admiral John Jonah (retd).
Okwu said the legislature was willing to cooperate with the executive to effectively combat pipeline vandalism, oil theft and other social vices ravaging the country.
He said the committee was in the state to assess the Airforce’s installations in the state, and other parts of the country to recommend appropriate measures for improvement.
“The committee shall cooperate with the executive arm of government to make sure that the war against pipeline vandalization and other social vices is totally won.
“The committee is ever determined to support all people oriented program by the Nigeria Airforce that will have a direct bearing on the host communities.”
He sympathized with the state government over persons who died during oil spills and other disasters that occurred in the state.
He, however, asked the state to help in providing a mobility tower for the Air Force Mobility Command operating in the state.
In his response, Jonah praised the relationship between security agencies and the state government, saying it was the reason for the relative peace in the state.
He said the state would look into the request for mobility tower and assured the committee of the government preparedness to partner with security agencies for peace and development.
