OPC kicks against relegation of yoruba leaders

Yoruba socio-cultural group, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), on Tuesday came hard on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government, berating it over what it described as the unfair treatment been meted out to leaders and people of the South-West.

The National Coordinating Council (NCC) of the group, said this in a statement signed by Comrade Adesina Akinpelu, and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

He said the people of the region and their leaders are suffering under the present administration, stating that without the votes of the South West, President Buhari would not have had the opportunity of becoming the President.

According to him, it is a sad development that a zone that played such a pivotal role in ensuring victory for Mr. President is today being neglected and its leaders relegated.

Akinpelu stated further that it is equally very sad that leaders in South West who played such crucial roles in making Mr. President what he is are today being treated with scorn and denigrated by the Northern Fulani oligarchy.

He said, “Leaders like Asiwaju Bola Ahmed who worked round the clock to ensure victory for President Buhari is today being treated like nonentity by those he assisted to become what they are today. We want the President to know that Asiwaju Tinubu is a Yoruba leader who is gradually assuming the position of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.”

He then warned that any attack on Tinubu or any other Yoruba leader is nothing but an attack on the entire Yoruba people, stating that the OPC will not take it easy with anyone who tries to ridicule or bring down the leaders in the South-West.

“Any further attack on the person of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu or any other Yoruba leader will be termed as an attack on Yorubaland. Oodua People’s Congress will not accommodate such affront”, he said.

On the recent statement about the government credited to the First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari, commended and salute her for the courage in speaking her mind on the issues she raised.
