A Surulere Chief Magistrate’s Court in Lagos yesterday granted N1 million bail to two workers, who allegedly absconded with school fees totalling N2,490,000.
Sunday Ekechukwu, 32 and Toheeb Olanrewaju, 28 are facing an eight–count charge bordering on stealing, causing riot, fraud and forgery.
Chief Magistrate Ipaye Nwachukwu also ordered that the accused must provide two sureties in the like sum.
Ipaye said the sureties must produce evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government, while their addresses should be verified.
Prosecuting Sergeant Anthonia Osayande said the accused committed the offence at Orile Iganmu area of Lagos around 10am on October 26.
Osayande said the two men refused to remit to the school, tuition fees collected from pupils, thereby defrauding their employer, Mrs Chika Okudo.
She said the accused suddenly stopped coming to school, established their own school, re-appeared in the school, assembled the pupils, and told them that they had established a better school.
The court adjourned the case till December 20.
