The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has identified poor maintenance culture and rapid urbanisation as some challenges confronting Army barracks nationwide.

He spoke at the School of Armour, Obienu Barracks, Bauchi State, when he opened an Army Transit accommodation for officers, yesterday.

Gen. Buratai, however, said the military would continue to prioritise welfare, promising that the Army will provide accommodation and other packages to make the environment conducive.

He noted that the success recorded by the military followed efforts at improving officers’ welfare.

Gen. Buratai, who lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for supporting the Army, called on officers to be patriotic.

Commandant of the School of Armour Maj.-Gen. Austine O. Edokpaye lauded Gen. Buratai for his initiatives through programmes aimed at improving officers’ welfare.

He noted that the recent promotion showed that the Army chief is giving confidence to the military by appreciating their contributions in face of challenges.
