Troops nab ‘pipeline vandal’, three others

A suspected vandal and militant, identified as “General Eagle”, was yesterday paraded at the headquarters of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Delta Safe (ODS), in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The suspect, who was arrested by troops of ODS after months of being on the wanted list of security agencies in the Niger Delta, was alleged to be the leader of a gang, which attacked pipelines in Delta and Bayelsa states.

ODS Commander Admiral Suleiman Apochi said the hoodlum was arrested at his hideout on Captain Ayeni Road, Kpansia, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, with three others.

He said following a tip-off, troops raided a lodge and arrested a man, identified as Mr. Funebi, described as the person in charge of arms and an ally of a notorious militant, popularly called “VIP”.

Funebi was said to be known in the creeks as a pirate, specialising in vandalising oil pipelines.
