Enugu promises children’s carnival

The wife of Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi, has promised to make the children’s street carnival a yearly celebration.

Speaking during the event in Enugu, she said children deserved to be celebrated yearly.

“Children are a special gift from God and they deserve to be made happy and show love everyday, more especially on a special occasion,’’ Mrs. Ugwuanyi said.

The programme was organised by the First Lady’s foundation, Ugo’s Touch of Life Foundation, sponsored by MTN and Nigerian Breweries, and was the first of its kind in the state.

She said the event was to redefine the value through culture as it was tagged by the organisers.

The governor’s wife urged the 17 local governments to prepare for the event next year, as the 2017 carnival would be huge.

She thanked the participants and sponsors that made the event a successful one.

The best and runner-up local governments, Uzo-Uwani and Nsukka, were rewarded with a trophy each, while the third, Udi, went home with a consolation prize of a carton of a malt drink.

The overall best school, Pontifical Mission Society, went home with a trophy.

The runner-up, Solid Base Private School, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu and the third, National Grammar School, Abakpa Nike, Enugu, also received cartons of a malt drink.

Mrs. Ngozi Chigbo, the leader of Uzo-Uwani team, expressed joy over their victory.

She said: “I’m happy to have been part of the participants from Uzo-Uwani and being part of the history is one of the best things that will happen to any individual.

“I wish this celebration will be made an annual event so that we can take the children to the city for fun.”

Chigbo thanked the organisers, the government and the governor’s wife for initiating the event, as well as the council Chairman, Mr. Cornelius Onwugboye, for supporting the team.
