The Inspector-General of Police (IG), Ibrahim Idris, has urged residents of distressed police buildings to relocate in the interest of their safety.
Idris said the police would provide financial support for accommodation to families, which had been served quit notices.
The IG, who was represented by Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG), Works Mohammed Dikko spoke during a tour of Highway Police Barracks, Ikeja, Lagos, where a building collapsed on Christmas Day, killing a sergeant and a civilian.
“We urge them to vacate the place,” he said, adding that “several of the buildings are defective and the occupants served quit notices by the Police Works Department and commissioner of Police. We expect them to leave to avoid a similar tragedy.”
