Labour berated for defending Fayose

Ekiti State workers have condemned Organised Labour for defending Governor Ayo Fayose and failing to fight for the payment of outstanding salaries, allowances and entitlements of retirees.

Acting under the aegis of Enlightened Workers Forum (EWF), they faulted the governor’s claim during his  appearance on two television stations that he promoted 15,000 workers and that he had paid them the two months he owed.

The workers’ body insisted that no worker had received a promotion letter, describing Organised Labour in Ekiti as “a government agency being funded like parastatals”.

In a statement yesterday by EWF Coordinator Mike Bamidele the workers urged the national leadership of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) to visit Ekiti to investigate the purported promotion and payment.

“The truth of the matter is that Fayose had only paid  salaries up to August and pensions up to last June. No worker has received any letter of promotion.

“An urgent visit of the national officers of the Organised Labour is important as this will apart from enabling them to know the facts, will prevent the bailout funds from being further diverted.”
