Soldiers mutiny in three Ivorian cities over pay

Ivorian soldiers yesterday launched mutinies in three cities across the country, demanding higher pay.

Gunshots were first heard at about 1am in Bouake, Cote d’Ivoire’s second-largest city.

The disturbances soon spread to  Daloa, in the central region, and Korhogo in the north.

Residents said the mutineers were  heavily armed and paraded through the streets.

The soldiers alleged that government failed to implement  most of the promises it  made when making the  2007 peace deal to end the country’s civil war.
