Redicated towards serving individuals and families in the poorest communities as well as improving lives of the less-privileged in the society, the Committee of Friends for Humanity (COFFHA) ), a group of women who have excelled in their chosen career, recently held a one day forum in Lagos where they deliberated on how best to chart a new way forward in the new year.
According to the current President COFFHA, Mrs. Caroline Akum Ufere, who spoke at the forum, the gathering was necessary so as to enable them brainstorm on how to further achieve the mission of COFFHA which has been in existence over two decades now.
Speaking about some of the projects which COFFHA intends to execute this year, Mrs. Ufere said the group intends setting up COFFHA center which according to her is on the front burner, “the centre is a sustainable project which when completed will act as a veritable tool to fund our future project as well as form a training ground for women and the youth”, she said..
” It is a multi-purpose center that will stand on an acre of land with an educational institution, hall and workshop for various skills. ” Ufere added.
COFFAHA’s work in the area of health care she noted, focused on the following areas, health care for women and children, health care and support for orphans, sustainable empowerment programme for women with special emphasis on widows and partnership/ collaboration with other agencies to execute enlightenment programmes.
Highlighting some of the projects executed by the organisation she said include; building of COFFHA Centre at the Isolo General Hospital Lagos, refurbishment and furnishing of a 16 – bed female ward and the provision of 20KVA Generating set for Apapa Health center, Lagos ; donation of Kidney Dialysis machine to Gbagada General Hospital , Gbagada , Lagos and a host of others.
Giving a brief history of the organisation which was founded in 1991, she said it was established by three friends who later invited other friends with the same ideas and vision, hence the name Committee of Friends for Humanity.
