Some of the fire outbreak victims in the commercial city of Nnewi, Anambra State have called on the state government to provide security and fire service office to the market to avoid such ugly incident again in the area.
The fire disaster which took place on Thursday burnt 154 shops where 500 machines were completely destroyed and traders rendered hopeless.
One of the victims, Mrs Anulika Ndukwe told The Nation that she lost everything in her shop, adding that as a widow with five children, she had become confused without any help from anywhere.
Also, Mr Dan Onyejeme, in tears, told The Nation that he did not bring out any single machine from his shop, adding that traders in the timber market lost goods worth over 1.5billions naira.
However, one of the governorship hopefuls for the November election in the state, Mr Godwin Ezeemo, who wept openly yesterday at the scene of the incident, blamed government for poor infrastructure in the markets.
Ezeemo, who is vying the governorship election on the platform of Progressives People’s Alliance (PPA), donated half a million (N500, 000) to the victims.
