BFN to meet over ‘missing’ mat

Board members of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) have finalised plans to meet over the ‘missing’ mat at the Abuja Stadium.

Some of the board members expressed shock that the President of the federation, Justice Danlami Senchi supervised the removal of the mat without any recourse to the board before taking the decision.

While admitting that the president facilitated the procurement of four mats through the sponsorship he got from the Sokoto State government, they, however, noted that it was wrong to take away the mat, which was acquired in the name of the BFN.

One of the board members, Obinna Ufomadu told NationSport that he was surprised that the president could supervise the removal of the mat and said that the board has decided to hold an emergency meeting where the issue and other matters would be discussed.

“What Justice Danlami Senchi did was like a rape on the badminton. I must admit that no one is happy with what he did, while most of the steps he has taken since his re-election leaves much to be desired. As a judge, he has taken the wrong step and if an ordinary citizen had done the same, he would have been jailed.”

He stated that the president is operating outside the rules governing the operation of the sports federation, assuring that the meeting to discuss what steps to be taken would take place soon. “All we need is to have the members agree on which date to meet and I hope that the president would make an appearance and defend his decision.

He also said that the meeting would fashion out ways of improving the fortunes of the game in the country.
