–To help fans track friends and loved ones during race
Organisers of the IAAF label Okpekpe international 10km road race have launched
an App to help fans follow the progress of friends,family or any of the
participants who will be running at the fifth edition of the race on
Saturday May 13 in Okpekpe,Edo state.
Diran Mabo,the Information Technology and Social Media cordinator for the race
revealed that the tracking app,the first to be launched for a road race in
Nigeria offers mobile features designed to address three core digital needs:
information delivery, sponsor activation and race day experience.
‘This is a completely new experience we have designed to engage the athletes
and the fans either coming for the race or who wish to find out from any part of
the world updates on the race,’said Mabo.
‘If you an athlete or a fun seeker running for fun or Charity at the race,
you can keep fans,friends and family up to date on your performance with the live
tracking app which allows friends and family to track real-time
activities and progress of athletes during the race,’further revealed Mabo who added that the
App also helps in ensuring a safe event by monitoring the field of
participants during the race.
”There will be an online map with live position of participants,live
position updates and a live leaderboard to show the position of the
top 10 runners,’said Mabo.
The App which is available on iPhone and Android App stores,
according to Mabo is powered by MYLAPS Experience Lab,a division
of MYLAPS Sports Timing focusing on the development of Web and App services for sports events, participants and spectators in order to create a more complete and streamlined sports
experience.
‘Each Okpekpe road race runner will have a device on their
numbered bib which tracks their location.As you move around
the race area, you’ll be given notifications of things going on
around you, weather updates and messages about who is leading the race.
In fact split times and finishing positions will be updated as the race
progresses and all the first aid points and drinks stations are included on the interactive map,’explained a delighted Mabo.
The Okpekpe international 10km road race is powered by Pamodzi

It is the first and only road race in Nigeria that has been granted full membership
of Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) and
recognised as one of the prestigious road races in the world and the only
race with an IAAF label status in West Africa.
