Benue SUBEB chief seeks project completion

Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Executive Chairman Dr. Philip Tachin has urged contractors yet to complete SUBEB projects to do so or face the wrath of the law.

Tachin stated this during the inspection of projects in Ushongo, Vandeikya and Kwande local government areas with a team.

The team, which included the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Mr Terver Akase, and the Coordinator of the Benue People’s Education Project, Mrs Betty Kajoh, visited four primary schools in Ushongo, and three each in Vandeikya and Kwande LGAs.

Tachin called for the construction of additional blocks in some schools to fill the shortage of classrooms. He assured teachers that the government was not only interested in providing infrastructure to schools but also prioritising teachers’ welfare and prompt payment of salaries, and human capacity development.

He commended the head teacher and management staff of one of the inspected schools-UBE Central School, Vandeikya for constructing a classroom block via self-help. He assured them that the shortfall of teachers would soon be addressed with the coming on board of the N-power programme of the Federal Government.

Tachin expressed satisfaction with some contractors for the job done, and called on others to intensify their pace, adding that the board would not pay any contractor who failed to meet the specifications of the board.

At the LGEA (Local Government Education Authority), Primary School, Ayua, in Vandeikya, Tachin assured the teachers and pupils that the borehole would be repaired to address water scarcity in the school.

Some of the parents expressed satisfaction with the project, pledging their cooperation.

Mr Iorliam Antser, a parent and member of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at St. Ann’s Primary School, Adikpo, and his counterpart  at NKST Primary School Atoga Baba Cieryol Akpehe, assured Tachin of the support of the parents and communities.

“Education is a teamwork; so we stand with you to ensure you succeed in your quest to turnaround the fortunes of our primary school,” he said.
