The Bayelsa State Advisory Committee on Public Service Reforms has said it will recommend the sacking of civil servants indicted for absenteeism and wage bill fraud.
The Chairman of the committee and paramount ruler of Twon-Brass Kingdom, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, who spoke with stakeholders in Brass Local Government, said the ongoing reforms had exposes some lazy workers.
Diette-Spiff said: “Some workers have to be dropped. We cannot have people that do not work but are receiving salaries. We cannot have people whose names appear in different payment vouchers”.
Spiff, who chair’s of the Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers, noted that local government funds were meant for are projects and not for payment of salaries.
He commended the Brass Local Government Chairman, Mr. Bello Bina for hosting his team when it visited to sensitise the people particularly civil servants on the merits of the “No Work No Pay” policy.
Also Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chairman of the committee, Chief Francis Doukpola and the Secretary, Dr. Felix Tuodolor insisted that persons, who refused to work did not deserve salaries.
He said private companies would not tolerate such indiscipline.
Bina hailed Governor Seriake Dickson for the no-work-no-pay policy, saying it was a step in the right direction.
According to Bina, the policy would reduce the number of absentee staff in the council.
He maintained that any member of staff that flouting the policy will be penalised.
While speaking on behalf of council workers, the Head of Administration and General Services, Dr. Noel Omubo, said the policy was a welcome development.
He promised support for the would be given the council Chairman in the implementation of the policy.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Brass Chapter, Mr. ThankGod Singer, vowed that any worker who refused to work would not receive salary.
He urged government to pay salaries so that workers would be motivated to put in their best.
