Abia State Police Command has inducted 300 officers and men into the newly introduced special tactical response squad, called “Operation Combatant Ready”.
Speaking in Umuahia at the event, Police Commissioner Leye Oyebade said the three operational units, which included Aba, Umuahia and Ohafia centres, were designed to cover the three zones.
He said the aim was to ensure crime was reduced, and assured residents of safety.
Oyebade said the squad had zero tolerance for corruption, adding that every nook and cranny would be covered.
He said the inspector general of Police (IGP) and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu assisted them with logistics.
The police boss enjoined the squad to exhibit a sense of responsibility in the discharge of its duty.
His words: “Henceforth, the police will adopt ‘Operation Stop and Search’”.
Oyebade assured the public of police readiness to fight crime, saying they should provide his command with information that could lead to the arrest of criminals.
