Senator Samuel Anyanwu, represen-ting Imo East Senatorial zone is on the verge of being recalled by his constituents over poor representation, The Nation has gathered.
Hundreds of protesters from the district led by Occupy Constituencies, a civil society group, at the weekend took to the streets to express their misgivings over what they described as “clueless and inept” representation.
Confirming this development, the Southeast Coordinator of the organisation, Mr. Fidel Obi, disclosed that the protest was triggered by Anyawu’s poor representation.
He maintained that the Senator had not impacted his constituents since he was elected to represent them.
Obi insisted that Anyawu was insensitive to the plights of his constituents.
According to him, “this protest is a wakeup call on Senator Samuel Anyawu and other Senators that have not represented their constituents well.
“We want Senator Anyawu to carry the plight of his constituents to the National Assembly.”
Obi also demanded that Anyawu should key into the change mantra of President Muhammadu Buhari and his anti corruption crusade.
He accused Anyawu of playing politics with members of his constituents rather than giving them quality representation, adding that, “today we are calling on our Senator to demand that any of the members of the Senate with high profile corruption charges in court should relinquish their positions.”
Contacted, Special Assistant on Media to the Senator, Kelechi Eke stated that he got an intelligent report on the planed protest but maintained that the allegations against the Senator were unfounded and baseless.
