Four jailed for oil theft

Four persons have been sentenced to two years imprisonment each for oil theft by a Federal High Court sitting in Benin, Edo State.

The four convicts, Jonathan Perekeme, Obi Tuku, Okus Moni and Perede Felix, were arrested by men of the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Edo State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Makinde Ayinla, who disclosed this on Friday, said the convicts were arraigned on three- count charge each.

Ayinla said the convicts were arrested on January 2016 at Urohi, Esan West local government area of the state.

The NSCDC commander stated that the convicts were arraigned for illegal dealing in petroleum products without lawful authority, unlawful aid, counsels and collaboration with oil thieves and conspiracy.

He said the command still has 14 pending cases in court, adding that the command seized 14, 000 illegally refined diesel.
